Even if you’ve never played chess beyond a casual game or two, you’ve probably got a sense of just how complex it can be. Mastering chess is no small feat, which is why earning the title of “grandmaster” is such an incredible achievement. The title represents a mastery of so many different skills: analytical and strategic thinking, abstract reasoning, concentration, patience, determination, memory, creativity, and even self-awareness. It’s a mental workout like no other, and those who rise to the top deserve all the respect that comes with it.
