Dividing the Land. A farmer dies and leaves 17 horses to his three sons, with the stipulation that the eldest son gets half of the horses, the middle son gets one-third, and the youngest son gets one-ninth. The sons are at a loss on how to divide the horses without selling them or cutting them into pieces until their neighbor offers a solution. What is the solution that the neighbor proposes?
